Time is on our side

It has again been some time since the Seagulls updated their blog, but this is not due to misfortune or a lack of activity, but rather the opposite in that the gulls have been so busy that blogging has unfortunately had to take a backseat, but never fear, we have returned to your screens. The Newcastle trip was a great success with old memories fondly ploughed up and new ones created. The days were filled with scenic visits to the dene and the various seasides; and when night fell the old posse was out in force three nights on the bounce making Newcastle a dangerous city to be frequenting.
Since then London has been as frantic as ever with rehearsals, gigs, cds, recordings, shirts, skirts, tits and arses being brandished around as well as the man still having a negative on the gulls lives as well as everybody else's in this god forsaken planet.
If any of you out there want to give your ears a little treat and listen to the tracks then here is a link to our bandpage:

Cd's, signed upon request ;),  are also available.

Next gigs are Friday the 8th of June at the Good Ship in Kilburn and Saturday the 23rd of June back at Monto Water Rats in Kings Cross which is our favourite venue to date. Hope to see you there,

Let's get bizzayyyy

After a minor flurry of activity of late the Seagulls finally have a moment's peace to relax in the nest, which is unfortunately looking rather like a party popper filled with bread crusts and rubbish has been detonated. On good old fools day the gulls recorded 4 tracks at Bowerman Studios - 'I Just Bought the Ocean', 'Scaremonger', 'Number 7', and 'True Criminal'. The listen backs were encouraging and they are currently being mixed by Neil Bowerman's expert ears so there is still a small wait for you oh so loyal flock before you can form an orderly queue to get your grubby little mitts on a copy. There may also be a little surprise for you, a hidden gem in a language you may not understand. Without giving too much away Val is not only a drummer, but also... a rapper.
Since recording, the gig train has been chugging away again with two in the last 3 days. Buffalo bar in Islington was the first which was a great success and then yesterday night an acoustic set in the Stage Door in Waterloo which was not quite so successful but DJ and Paddy did share a mic so at least we looked cute ;).
In other news, tomorrow is an important day, it is the fox amongst the flocks birthday so we extend a warm welcome to one and all to come to the nest and have a beverage or maybe two, or maybe four, but not three, that's outlawed. Our neighbours already love us so much that further damage is near impossible, so let's just hope that we still have a flat come Tuesday.
Further excitement follows as this weekend ahead the Seagulls are flying North, back to Newcastle finally! The list of places to visit is extensive - Sinners, Basement, The Hancock, The Lonsdale, the Tyne, the sunny sands of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, and of course the beautiful scenic Dene - by the old mill and waterfall which is one of the best places to contemplate life.

Let's not discuss Blackburn - we are bollocks.

over and out, until the next time brethrin, xxxx

Carrots!

Good evening ladies and gents,

It has been quite a while since the last seagulls update but never fear faithful flock, we have been busy as beavers. With a drummer and bassist in tow, the seagulls are starting to sound more wholesome and looking forward to what the future has in store. The coming of spring has rejuvenated us and so we have decided to set up a recording session in light of our now complete flock at the end of this month. We should hopefully have some songs uploaded pretty soon after for any who wish to check out our progress. Moreover, we have a few gigs come early April, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates....

p.s. Whats orange and sounds like parrot?

muchos love,

February... surprisingly elusive form by the gulls

While late 2011 and early 2012 has been a loud, chirpy, squawky period for the gulls thus far (as you may have noticed)... post February 9th the birds have been taking a bit of time out. After 3 gigs in a week - the Auld Shillelagh on the 5th which ended with bus gigs across the big smoke; the infamous Dublin Castle where such idols such as Blur, the Madness and the Libertines have performed on the 7th; and the Hobgoblin on the snowy eve of the 9th; the gulls needed some rest, relaxation, and time to reflect. In their spare time DJ has ventured off to Brazil to see his brother and family and party for Carnival; Patrick has been working like a slave; Foxy has been drinking to his hearts content which includes this Sunday evening; and Alec has been running amuck with his lady friend and tampering with other musical experiments.
In this mini-hiatus however, an action plan has been formulated for March, so no need to fret. A rehearsal studio is to be booked with a few special guests/new additions to record a new, fuller sounding cd, and then the gigs will commence. 6th March the gulls are booked at Nambucca on Holloway Rd, where Pete Doherty performed just weeks ago; the 16th is another Holloway Rd venue, the Horatia; the 21st March is the Underbelly in Shoreditch; and the 24th is the finale at the Stage Door in Waterloo (You're My...)

Anyway, with all this exciting news in the offing, i will leave you to digest it, and try as you will to catch some much needed 40winks before we embark upon mad march.... although of course it will be understandable if you are simply lying in bed, dreaming of flying with the gulls as you will always be welcome to do.

Adios amigos, keep flying high, the sky has no limits xxxx

Gigs galore

So ladies and gents the month of January has ended on a high. The gig went as well as we could have wished and has resulted in a rebooking with the promoters for another venue. The gulls come away from their morale-boosting performance excited for the next few gigs lined up. These can be found on our facebook group page for any of those who wish to join the flock (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Seagulls/214694068609787?sk=app_178091127385). Apart from their recent gig, the gulls do not have much to report. Over the weekend a visit by two of the flock's bottom bitches, Claire and Rebecca, meant that the kitchen and living room were cleaned and the gull's nest became even more welcoming than before. One small blemish was their terrible taste in music - to quote one particularly horrid song played, 'I'm sexy and you know it... I work out.'

This week the gulls are all slaving away at our various professions while trying to fit some song-writing and band practice in between. Furthermore, seagull p has come to the conclusion that some Royal Mail staff are depressingly incompetent and we should return to pigeon carriers.... or even better, we should turn to seagull carriers, to carry the letters of love and life to their intended recipients.

To end on a tastey quote from a poet Seagull P is particularly fond of at the moment:

'When we find ourselves wanting everything it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing'
- Sylvia Plath

adios amigoes, seagull p xx

Look to the sky... Friday 27th January is looming

Gulls and gullettes, it is now just five days until the Seagulls first gig in 2012 is upon us! The setlist is finalised with seven originals and one cover (you may have been lucky enough to have seen a sensual and sexual performance of this in the nest's bath) 30minute set, but of course you will have to wait till the big day to see what songs and in what whimsical order they are performed. Practices are steadily improving, and the gulls are happy to announce the arrival of Alec on drums who has added steady and soothing backbeats to the luscious lullabyes just in time for the onslaught of Seagull flights around London.

In other news the gulls have trashed and tidied their flat several times, the worst case being a post Big Red food fight that got seriously out of hand; visited Proud in Camden for a casual few beverages before the departure of Ali, an old chum who has set off to travel the world; annoyed numerous people at Emer's (Paddy's twin sisters) house party; and still been working due to the bloody 'man'.

Keep your eyes and dreams high, and hopefully see many a friendly face this Friday, 8pm sharp at Club Surya near Kings Cross Station....

2012: The Year of the Seagull.. Gig-ity

A new year is upon us and the Seagulls have been flying around causing havoc in London Town. P and D had an adventure down Camden on Saturday night spying out new spots for the birds to squawk; Fox has been slowly coming out of hibernation, whilst Philip has been entering his own very late, emerging from his cave only for the odd shift, food or toilet trip.
The cd has been banded around virally and the gigs are starting to roll in with two now booked in for Feb and two more in March, prestigious venues and all... details to be put up on the bandpage very soon.
Saturday night started out as a quiet drink in the swanky suburbs of Camden but the bright lights beckoned and a pub crawl ensued. World's End, Lock 17, the Dublin Castle and Camden Eye were all frequented, one of which is the location for one of the upcoming Feb gigs, but we will keep you guessing and build the anticipation.
Some erupted onto the cards too as Camden Eye had an excellent 3 piece band playing who performed a fantastic cover of 'Where is my mind' by the Pixies. Ideas were planted in the gulls brains as an acoustic drum piece known as a cajon was being used to great effect and with the return of Chris and the looming acoustic sets this addition could be a very fruitful one.

Keep this in your mind, and we look forward to seeing your excited(?) faces at the upcoming gigs.. peace out flock xxx
